Now that her starter San Fernando Valley home has sold, singer/songwriter Melanie Martinez — who first gained fame as a contestant on “The Voice” in 2012 at just 16 years old, and subsequently blossomed into a “pop star plucked from the imagination of Dr. Seuss” — has upgraded to a custom-built equestrian spread in prestigious Bell Canyon, a guard-gated community due north of Calabasas.
Records show Martinez doled out $2.1 million for her new home, which has five bedrooms and a matching number of baths in 3,600 square feet of two-level living space. Meanwhile, her former property — a Mediterranean-inspired residence in Sherman Oaks — was recently sold for a speck over $2 million, $700,000 more than she paid for the place six years ago.
Now 27, the New York native is signed to Atlantic Records, through which she released her debut single and EP “Dollhouse.” The eccentric, visually oriented musician followed that up with the studio albums “Cry Baby” and “K-12” (with an accompanying film), and the EP “After School.” She’s also bounced back from sexual assault accusations leveled at her by an ex-friend — something Martinez has adamantly denied — with her viral TikTok hit “Play Date” becoming one of the top 100 most-played songs on Spotify.
As for Martinez’s newly acquired home, the creamy stucco and wood-trimmed structure is nestled behind walls and gates, amid a heavily wooded parcel spanning almost an acre. Built in 1979, the open-concept interiors are punctuated throughout with soaring wood-beam ceilings, dark hardwood floors, and detailed woodwork and crown moldings.
Especially standing out is a portico entrance that opens into an eye-catching foyer displaying a vaulted ceiling and staircase, which steps down into a living room sporting a stone fireplace, wall of windows and wet bar tucked away in the corner. Elsewhere is family room boasting a two-way brick fireplace that adjoins a spacious kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island and stainless appliances, plus an office space and separate dining room adorned with a wrought-iron chandelier.
Upstairs, an oversized upstairs master retreat is showcased by a walk-in closet, and spa-like bath with dual vanities and a soaking tub; and outdoors, the private backyard hosts a sundeck-encased pool and spa flanked by a barbecue and kitchen setup with fireplace, along with a covered terrace ideal for al fresco dining and entertaining. There’s also a barn with three horse stalls, as well as a motorcourt and three-car garage out front.
