Did she even give Georgia’s renowned Southern Hospitality a chance? After less than a year of ownership, the glamorous Atlanta-area mansion of Mariah Carey has popped back up for sale, asking $6.5 million — or $850,000 more than the Grammy winner paid for the place in an off-market deal, back in December 2021.
Per the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the story, the “Queen of Christmas” briefly lived in the Colonial-style mansion but now wants to return to her New York roots, adding that a burglary at the home this past July didn’t contribute to the decision to sell.
Tucked away on a gated hilltop parcel spanning over 4 acres in the suburban city of Sandy Springs, just minutes from downtown Atlanta, the house was completely rebuilt in the early 1990s and designed by architect Stephen Fuller. The red brick and columned structure features nine bedrooms and 13 baths sprawled across more than 12,500 square feet of living space boasting intricate crown molding and millwork, coffered ceilings and arched doorways throughout.
Previously leased out by none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the property was fully customized by the “All I Want for Christmas is You” singer during her short tenure, complete with a pink-hued dressing room and recording booth. Other highlights include an elegant living room sporting a fireplace and French doors spilling out to the backyard, formal dining room and wood-paneled library, plus a sleekly designed gourmet kitchen outfitted with a spacious eat-in island, high-end Bosch, Sub-Zero and ZLINE appliances, and a sunny breakfast nook.
A plush upstairs master retreat displays a fireplace flanked by built-in shelves, private terrace, morning bar, walk-in closet, the aforementioned dressing room equipped with a makeup mirror and salon chair, and luxe bath holding dual vanities and an inviting soaking tub. A large daylight terrace level is fully equipped with a movie theater, mirrored gym and fireside living room that opens to an outdoor entertaining/play area, where the garden-laced grounds also host a heated pool, an entertainment pavilion with built-in barbecue, tennis court and three-car garage.
Carey, 53, was born in Huntington, N.Y., on Long Island. In addition to her for-sale Atlanta mansion, she maintains a triplex penthouse in lower Manhattan and 3-acre beachfront compound on the Bahamas’ ultra-exclusive Windermere Island.
The Atlanta listing is held by Shanna Bradley of Ansley Real Estate Christie’s International in Atlanta.
