Pop singer/songwriter Liam Payne, of One Direction fame and fortune, is selling the Surrey, England, home he previously shared with ex-girlfriend Cheryl Tweedy. Payne, now 28, purchased the five-bedroom and seven-bath house in March 2015, paying about $6.8 million for the place, which is set on 2.9 acres and backs onto a golf course. As first reported in the Daily Mail, the property is listed with Teresa Kane at Mountgrange Heritage.
In leafy Woking, the Surrey house seems ideal for a playful couple or a family with young children. Outside, there’s a swimming pool and a turf tennis court/soccer pitch; inside, there are multiple reception rooms, a plush home theater, a gym that’s complete with a hot yoga room, and games room with snooker table and several pinball machines. The main house’s principal bedroom has two huge skylight-topped bathrooms, each with a custom-fitted dressing room, and there’s a separate two-story one-bedroom and one-bath cottage for guests or staff.
Boy banders One Direction, on indefinite hiatus since 2016, were pop sensations: the first band in the Billboard 200 history to have their first four albums debut at number one. Their third album, “Midnight Memories,” was the best-selling album worldwide of 2013. Payne has since broken up with Tweedy, a former singer for the group Girls Aloud — the biggest selling British girl group of the 21st century, whom he first met at the age 14, in 2008, when he auditioned for the British version of “The X Factor” reality show, where Cheryl, then 24, was a judge. Eight years later, the pair announced they were in a relationship, and in March 2017, Cheryl gave birth to a son, Bear. Just about a year later, they announced their breakup. Cheryl and Bear moved out of this property in March 2019, and now live about 45 minutes away. Payne, who has embarked on a solo career, announced his engagement to Texas-born model Maya Henry last year, though the couple has since ended their relationship.
As of late last year, Payne and Henry were holed up in a rented seven-bedroom mansion in Buckinghamshire, and earlier this year he sold a secluded home of nearly 10,000 square feet in Calabasas, Calif., to singer Halsey for $10.2 million, a bit more than the $10 million he paid for the sprawling compound in 2015.
