Over his 60-year career, the late rocker Johnny Hallyday became widely regarded as the “French Elvis Presley” for his contributions to the country’s music scene. Toward the end of his life, though, Hallyday and wife Laeticia began to spend an increasing about of time across the pond, on the posh Westside of Los Angeles. Records reveal the couple’s lavish home in Pacific Palisades, first put up for sale last year with a $17.9 million ask, has sold for $16.3 million to McKinsey senior partner Olivier Leclerc and his realtor wife Fanny.
Born Jean-Philippe Smet, Hallyday began his career in the late 1950s, belting out French-language cover versions of popular rock ‘n’ roll ditties by artists like Elvis Presley, who he has said inspired him to become a singer. He spent much of the last years of his life before his passing at age 74, in December 2017, at this traditional-style home resting on almost a half-acre parcel of land along the coveted rim portion of Amalfi Drive, near the ultra-prestigious Riviera Country Club.
After purchasing the property way back in 2009 for $4.5 million, Hallyday then went on to custom build the three-story structure, which holds nearly 12,000 square feet of eclectic living space with seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. Among the place’s many amenities: a sauna, walk-in refrigerator, wine cellar and elevator, plus a resort-style backyard highlighted by an outdoor kitchen/al fresco dining area sporting a built-in barbecue, and an infinity-edge pool and spa overlooking the canyon.
Securely gated, the white-shingled home is fronted by a circular driveway and four-car garage surrounded by a swath of mature trees. Once inside, the main level boasts a soaring foyer showcasing a chandelier made up of dangling lightbulbs. That area veers off into a spacious dining room on one side and formal living room with fireplace on the other; and this floor also has a library, family room with fireplace, walk-in bar, and gourmet kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island, high-end appliances and an adjoining breakfast area.
There are four bedrooms upstairs, including a master retreat sporting a fireside sitting area, separate study, balcony, dual walk-in closets, and a spa-style bath with a soaking tub. Two guest rooms also can be found down below in the basement, along with a large recreation room, plush 18-seat theater, laundry room and fully equipped gym.
