The bad moon is officially rising over the Los Angeles neighborhood of Encino, where John Fogerty has slapped a nearly $9 million pricetag on his moodily glam mansion — contemporary goth vibes included. The prolific songwriter and Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman (“Proud Mary,” “Who’ll Stop the Rain,” “Fortunate Son”) acquired the property in 2018, paying $6.8 million to Hollywood producer Michael Sugar; since then, the house has undergone a dramatic remodel. The listing, first reported by the L.A. Times, is held by “Million Dollar Listing” dealmakers Matt and Josh Altman of The Altman Brothers team at Douglas Elliman.
And “dramatic remodel” isn’t an exaggeration. Back when Fogerty bought the place, it was a very nice — if slightly matronly — East Coast-inspired farmhouse mansion with clapboard siding and family-oriented style. But today, the nearly 9,000-square-foot manor is all but unrecognizable, sporting a swanked out new look fit for a rockstar, all six bedrooms and eight bathrooms of said rockstar. Whether those pricey upgrades will convince a deep-pocketed buyer to pay the $2.2 million markup remains to be seen.
Located in one of the most fashionable pockets of Encino, where some of the nearby multimillion-dollar mansions are owned by Meghan Trainor, ‘Real Housewives’ star Dorit Kemsley, and insurance tycoon Veronica Gallardo, the heavily fortified house sits on a tiny cul-de-sac behind giant gates and towering hedges, rendering it invisible from the roadway. Naturally, the .63-acre estate is also secured by a state-of-the-art Elan home automation system, with security cameras and alarms galore.
