Jeff Lynne has fount a new place to connect his telephone line. The legendary rock-n-roller, best-known as the frontman and co-founder of Electric Light Orchestra, has plunked down exactly $10 million for an estate in Brentwood, one of Los Angeles’ poshest neighborhoods. The desirably flat property spans more than two-thirds of an acre, with views of the canyons and hills that dot the northern part of L.A.’s Westside.
Ten million dollars may seem like a lot of money for a house — and it still is — but if you’re thinking it scored Lynne a bonafide mansion, think again. His new home appears remarkably ordinary from the outside, though it spans a roomy 3,400 square feet of interior space. Set securely behind blacked-out walls and gates, the 1950s structure has California ranch-style heritage, complete with a front-facing two-car garage.
Last sold in 2016 for $6.6 million to businessman Murray Lugash, the house has been recently updated in a very white and generically contemporary manner, complete with open living spaces, recessed lighting, and medium-grade stainless kitchen appliances. Per the listing, Lugash leased out the house for the last few years, and the property now generates a staggering $300,000 in gross annual income.
Interior highlights include hardwood floors throughout, banks of sliding glass doors, and oversized windows that bathe the house in warm, natural light. There are four bedrooms and four bathrooms, and the master suite sports a fireplace and stone-clad bath with dual sinks. There’s also a covered back porch with space for al fresco dining, plus a built in BBQ/outdoor kitchen area.
But the property’s real value is in its rare amount of land. The huge backyard is dotted by mature specimen trees, and current improvements include a bocce court, huge swathes of grassy lawn, meandering pathways, and even a seating area with firepit.
Lynne, 73, has long lived in Los Angeles. Since 1994, his home base has been in the mountains above Beverly Hills, on a tree-shaded property looming high over Benedict Canyon. The sprawling estate spans across three contiguous lots with views capturing the entirety of the L.A. basin to the Pacific Ocean.
Todd Nathanson of Sotheby’s International Realty held the listing; Therese Seraphine of eXp Realty repped Lynne.
