On Las Flores Beach, Finneas O’Connell has come out smelling like a rose. Barely two years after he doled out millions for his pricey Malibu getaway, the Grammy-winning songwriter and record producer known professionally as Finneas has handed over the keys to a new owner.
The 24-year-old Los Angeles native, who’s probably best known as the older brother of music superstar Billie Eilish, has sold the fully furnished cottage to veteran media exec Jennifer Smith — founder of C Magazine and its Studio C retail concept, and president of Santa Barbara Magazine — for just under $5.7 million.
Back in 2020, Finneas paid actor Rick Schroder $5.2 million for the place, which he shared with his longtime girlfriend, YouTuber Claudia Sulewski. Tucked away securely behind walls and gates just south of the Malibu Pier and near a prime surf break, the two-story structure was built in 2005 and offers sweeping coastline views paired with over 40 feet of beach frontage. Featured are four bedrooms and four baths packed into almost 1,300 square feet of light-filled living space boasting hardwood floors and wood-beam ceilings.
Main-level highlights include a fireside living room with built-in seating and French doors that open to a deck outfitted with rattan swing chairs overlooking the Pacific. The updated kitchen abuts a dining area, and comes complete with granite countertops, high-end Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, and an eat-in breakfast bar.
All of the bedrooms can be found on the lower level, including a master retreat adorned with a fireplace, private ocean-view deck with hot tub and walk-in closet, along with a spa-like bath equipped with dual vanities and a large glass-encased steam shower; and topping it all off is a two-car garage and security system armed with cameras.
Finneas mostly writes and produces songs for his sister, with the duo having recently nabbed a “Best Original Song” Oscar for the James Bond theme “No Time to Die,” from the film of the same name. But he’s also penned tunes for artists like Demi Lovato, Kid Cudi, Halsey and Justin Bieber, and he’s released several albums and singles himself as well.
Aside from his now-sold beach house, Finneas owns a petite Highland Park bungalow; and he recently added to his Los Feliz land holdings with the $4.6 million acquisition of a ranch-style spread immediately right next to another multimillion-dollar house he owns. As for Eilish, she’s still got a luxe horse ranch in Glendale, Calif.
The listing was held by Tori Horowitz of Compass; Eric Haskell of The Agency repped the buyer.
