It’s “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang” for Dr. Dre! Just days after the iconic rapper, songwriter and producer agreed to sell a bundle of music income streams and some owned music assets to Universal Music and Shamrock Holdings, in combined deals topping $200 million, he’s officially offloaded one of his Los Angeles-area homes.
Records show Dre — who recently threatened legal action against congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene for using his iconic 1999 hit “Still D.R.E.” without permission — has sold a palatial spread in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Calabasas to an as-yet-unnamed buyer for exactly $6 million — or $1 million more than he paid for the place back in spring 2018.
Sited in the guard-gated Mountain View Estates community, the mansion was built in the late 1990s and has since been extensively updated to the tune of around a million bucks to convert it into a showplace, per the listing. The creamy stucco and terracotta-roof structure features six bedrooms and seven baths in nearly 9,400 square feet of two-level living space embellished throughout wide-plank oak floors, soaring ceilings, designer light fixtures, and high-end granite, marble and tile finishes.
Nestled amid a secluded cul-de-sac, on a parcel spanning over three-quarters of an acre, the house is fronted by a gated driveway that wraps around to a motorcourt and an attached garage with room for at least eight vehicles. A portico-topped entryway opens into a double-height foyer displaying a spiral wrought-iron staircase, which leads directly into a spacious formal dining room, as well as an adjacent sunken living room spotlighted by a decorative fireplace and French doors spilling outside.
Other main-level highlights include a sprawling gourmet kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island, first-class stainless appliances, and an accompanying breakfast nook and built-in workstation. Right around the corner is a large family room spotlighted by a walk-in wet bar with seating; and elsewhere is a movie theater, wood-paneled study, beauty salon, and sumptuous upstairs master retreat offering a fireside seating area, wraparound balcony, dual walk-in closets and a luxe bath.
The snazzy amenities continue outdoors, where the grassy grounds are laced with palm trees, and host a fire-pit lounge, pool and spa surrounded by a flagstone sundeck, patio kitchen, standalone pizza oven, sport court and charming stone fountain — all overlooking scenic hillside vistas.
In addition to his just-sold Calabasas property, the 57-year-old Compton native’s contemporary vacation home on Malibu’s Carbon Beach is currently on the market for $20 million. Dre still maintains another home elsewhere in Calabasas, but his main residence remains a $40 million Brentwood estate he purchased nearly a decade ago from Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen.
