Dominic Howard, the spritely co-founder and energetic drummer of two-time Grammy-winning English alt-rock band Muse has come down from his celeb-pedigreed mountaintop high above L.A.’s Laurel Canyon and planted some new real estate roots in a particularly posh pocket of L.A.’s affluent seaside community of Pacific Palisades; tax records show the 44-year-old musician has shelled out $8.35 million in an off-market deal for a ten-year-old East Coast-style traditional home with sweeping ocean views.
Since the deal went down outside the MLS, not much is known about the home’s current condition and layout, but tax records and other digital resources indicate the two-story home, which sits on close to half an acre behind a double-gated horseshoe drive, has five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms, plus a one-bed/one-bath poolside guesthouse, in about 7,000 square feet of living space.
Howard’s former home above Laurel Canyon, which included a recording studio and state-of-the-art screening room, was custom-designed for him by the New York and L.A.-based architecture firm Studio Tim Campbell, so it stands to reason he’ll also have his new home extensively overhauled to suit the needs and proclivities of a veteran rock star.
At the time his new home was built in 2012, however, the double-height foyer was topped by skylights and the gourmet kitchen offered a large work island, premium appliances, and an oversized pantry. Each of the main house’s five bedrooms boasted a private bath, while the principal bedroom was replete with a fireplace, balcony, lots of closet space, and a marble bath.
Other highlights included a main-floor library with outside entrance, a 1000-bottle wine room, and numerous French doors that opened the house to a breezy back porch overlooking the yard and swimming pool. Alongside the pool, the guesthouse included a fireplace and bar.
The seller was represented in the transaction by Michael Edlen of Coldwell Banker Realty; Howard was repped by Jamie Davis and Jonathan Nash of the Resnick & Nash Group at Hilton & Hyland.
The drummer’s former home, which he bought in 2014 for almost $4.4 million and had previously been owned by Mila Kunis, was sold last year for $6.9 million to Emmy-, Tony-, SAG- and Oscar-nominated actress Anna Kendrick.
