When the divorce of genre defying musician Beck and actress Marissa Ribissi was finalized last year, she held on to a multimillion-dollar home in L.A.’s Los Feliz neighborhood and he kept ten properties scattered across Arkansas, Tennessee and California. One of the California properties Beck got is a 1940s bungalow, also in Los Feliz, that has now come to market with Roger Perry at Rodeo Realty at $2.95 million.
Not counting improvement expenses and real estate fees, the “Loser” singer stands to nearly triple his money on the property, which he scooped up about 7.5 years ago for $1.045 million. Tucked into a leafy and quietly exclusive gated enclave, the comprehensively renovated bungalow is just up the street from the home Ribisi was granted. That close proximity was no doubt by design and probably related to making it easier to co-parent their teenage children.
Built in the late 1940s, the modestly proportioned though hardly inexpensive bungalow sits atop a street-level two-car garage. There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms in just over 2,000 meticulously and expensively updated square feet, plus another 460-ish square feet in a finished basement area that comprises generous storage and a surprisingly high-ceilinged screening room.
Visible as you come through the front door, the innovative musician displays a few of his half dozen MTV Video Music Awards and several of his eight Grammys. (His most recent Grammy was awarded in 2019 for the album “Hyperspace.”) With a bay window, fireplace and wide-plank oak floorboards, the living room doubles a recording studio, with sound baffling panels affixed to the raised ceiling, while the adjoining dining area flows into the open-plan kitchen that showcases spider-veined countertops and designer appliances. A skylight ensures the kitchen receives light all day long.
Floor plans included with marketing materials show two guest bedrooms, one at the front of the house, with an adjacent hall bath, and the other at the back that’s complete with a compact en-suite bathroom. Entered through a vestibule that creates a sense of privacy, the primary suite includes a skylight-topped walk-in closet and a marble bathroom punched up with hexagonal turquoise floor tiles.
French doors in the main bedroom and another glass door in the pantry area off the kitchen lead out to flag stone-paved terrace that includes a covered patio outfitted with heaters for all-season use. Another area sports a ping-pong table and notched into the hillside, another terrace has a fire pit.
Tax records show Ribisi’s home, purchased from powerhouse TV writer/producer Stephanie Savage in 2018 for about $3.1 million, was quietly and profitably sold earlier this year in an off-market deal valued at $5.3 million, while Beck’s holdings include a handful of investment homes in Memphis, Tenn., at least one property in Little Rock, Ark., and a midcentury cottage on Malibu’s Point Dume, which he scooped up about six years ago for not quite $2.7 million.
