He’s frequently been called the world’s biggest star, and now Bad Bunny has a home that really cements that A-list status. The Grammy-winning Puerto Rican rap-reggaeton phenomenon, born Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, has said “I like it like that” to this Los Angeles estate, paying an impressive $8.8 million for the property.
Built in 2005 and last sold in 2015 for $8.2 million, the contemporary compound is perched very high up in the hills above the city’s bustling Sunset Strip. Though the house wasn’t listed for sale at the time of Bad Bunny’s acquisition, it had been offered last year at $9 million and was sold by Ali Jassim, a longtime business associate of Sheikh Mansour, the Arab multibillionaire who owns the U.K.’s Manchester City football club. In an interesting coincidence — or maybe it’s not — Jassim also has longstanding Puerto Rico ties, reportedly keeping a primary residence on the Caribbean island.
Gates and an enormous wall shield the fortress-like residence from public view, and there is off-street parking for six or more cars. The garage is attached to a two-story guesthouse just a short walk away from the five-bedroom main house; both structures combined have eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms and total living space of more than 7,000 square feet.
Recently renovated, the main house offers whitewashed interiors and lavish contemporary finishes. There are “several living rooms,” per previous listings, a dining room and an island-equipped kitchen with Viking appliances. Upstairs, the master suite is defined by a strikingly huge closet, complete with its own designated sitting area. There’s also a private balcony and bathroom with a glass-enclosed shower and freestanding tub.
The half-acre property also features an amenity rarely found in the crowded Hollywood Hills — a large and fully usable backyard, complete with a sprawling lawn, generous patios, an infinity-edge pool and BBQ center. Panoramic views take in the city lights, and mature palm trees add a resort-quality ambience to the place.
It was his verse on the 2018 remix of Cardi B’s “I Like It” hit single that first brought Bad Bunny to mainstream attention. Since then, his massive social media following quickly transformed the 28-year-old into a superstar, and he’s spent much of the past two years dominating the global music market. His 2022 touring efforts grossed an unbelievable $230 million — a new worldwide record. He also had the bestselling album globally, exceeding competition from Beyoncé, Drake and BTS. He was Spotify’s most streamed artist of 2022, with 18.5 billion streams; recent hits include “Efecto,” “Tití Me Preguntó,” “Neverita” and “Ojitos lindos.”
In addition to his new L.A. retreat, Bad Bunny reportedly retains a main residence in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As for Jassim, he also remains based in San Juan but recently dropped $12 million for Anna Kournikova’s former Miami mansion.
