Professional gamer Ludwig Ahgren, better known mononymously as Ludwig, has arrived in Los Angeles. Actually, YouTube’s streaming sensation has owned a SoCal home since summer 2020, when he bought a place in the somewhat far-flung city of Diamond Bar. But now he’s moving to L.A. proper, where records show the 26-year-old has secured a multimillion-dollar residence in a desirable neighborhood.
Ludwig bought the property from Emmy-winning filmmaker Madeleine Sackler, whose films (“The Lottery,” “It’s a Hard Truth, Ain’t It”) have won critical acclaim, though Sackler herself has faced criticism for the origins of her wealth. (Sackler, an Oklahoma-born heiress, is a granddaughter of Purdue Pharma cofounder Raymond Sackler, who famously marketed the highly addictive OxyContin drug that is central to America’s opioid epidemic.)
For her part, Sackler acquired the property about 2.5 years ago, and flipped the house to Ludwig for $3.4 million — a $400,000 profit before realtor fees, maintenance, taxes and other closing costs. Situated at the very end of a sleepy cul-de-sac, and hidden behind gates, the house was originally built in 1939 but has been extensively renovated since.
Within about 3,500 square feet are four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a contemporary kitchen with marble countertops and high-end Viking and Miele appliances. Via sliding doors, the kitchen spills out to an al fresco dining area shaded by a loggia, plus fruit trees and a saltwater pool and spa shaded by a tall hedge. At the far rear corner of the property lies a small guesthouse that is currently permitted as storage space, per the listing.
Back in the main house, there’s an upper level that contains the master suite, which sports a spa-style bathroom, a dressing room and private balcony with impressive views. Two of the other three bedrooms are also located upstairs, and they share a single bathroom.
Born and raised in New Hampshire, Ludwig began streaming his gameplay in 2018. In October 2021, a widespread data breach revealed he earned $3.3 million in two years solely through his Twitch streaming efforts, a sum that did not include separate earnings from his highly lucrative endorsement deals. Late last year, Ludwig signed an exclusivity agreement for an undisclosed amount to move from Twitch to YouTube Gaming, where he has amassed 3.1 million subscribers.
As for Ludwig’s current Diamond Bar home, that property is located within The Country Estates, a guard-gated community known for its high security and highly affluent residents, many of whom hail from Mainland China. Ludwig’s 1.2-acre spread is surrounded by hulking mansions, and one of his nearest neighbors is Snoop Dogg.
