He may perhaps be the world’s richest YouTuber, with a slew of successful businesses under his bubblegum pink belt, but Jeffree Star can’t seem to sell a house to save his life. The Orange County native, 36, has so far had zero luck unloading his internationally famous Hidden Hills mega-mansion, despite multiple price chops and a veritable blitz of publicity.
But that doesn’t mean Star has given up trying. First listed last summer with a $20 million ask, his mansion has now reappeared with a new high-powered real estate agent, newly staged interiors, new listing photos, and a newly improved asking price — $15.5 million, or a whopping $4.5 million less than Star originally wanted.
Even in the event of a full-price offer, it seems unlikely Star will walk with any sort of profit, especially when factoring in taxes, realtor commissions and the cost of maintaining a property of this size and stature. The cosmetics baron acquired the nearly three-acre estate in December 2019 for $14.6 million, and has since made extensive upgrades and renovations.
Star has said that at the time of his purchase, “everything in the house was 10 years old” and completely outdated. He therefore replaced all the electrical systems, all the security systems, upgraded the HVAC systems, and covered the formerly drab gray-and-brown interior color scheme with a more vibrant white-and-gold motif — complete with pops of lurid pink and red, naturally. In 2020, Star’s at-home massage facilites were also completely transformed by husband-and-wife YouTube design team Mr. Kate.
So why hasn’t the house sold? Perhaps it actually answers the “how big is too big” question. Indeed, the Star manor is perhaps the largest house in all of Hidden Hills — with nearly 20,000 square feet of living space, plus two attached guesthouses, a detached “barn,” and an underground garage reportedly not included in the total square footage figure. The kitchen alone has two giant islands, plus multiple commercial-grade refrigerators and freezers with enough space to feed a large army, quite literally.
