For the last year or so, Los Angeles-based conservative political commentator Dave Rubin has been teasing a permanent move to Florida, or a variety of other states more tax-friendly than California. And while it’s not clear if that move is actually happening, Rubin would like to unload his glitzy main residence in L.A.’s posh Encino neighborhood — it’s popped up for sale with a nearly $6.4 million price tag. Rubin, 45, and his husband David Janet paid $5.2 million for the contemporary estate only one year ago, back when it was freshly all-new.
Somewhat curiously, the home’s current marketing photographs are recycled from the original listing last year, so it’s unclear whether Rubin has made any upgrades or improvements to help justify the $1.2 million increase in price. But the 6,500-square-foot house is mansion-sized and loaded with undeniably snazzy amenities. It’s got a rooftop deck, a separate guesthouse/poolhouse, sports court, two firepits, an outdoor kitchen and indoor chef’s kitchen with sleekly piano-finished cabinetry, plus a secondary prep kitchen hidden behind the formal dining area — yes, there are three kitchens on the premises.
Other luxe features include Fleetwood pocket glass doors, mature palm trees, a poolside cabana, and an upstairs primary bedroom suite with a private sitting area, private balcony and a fireplace, plus the expectedly spacious bathroom and dressing rooms. And then there are the famous neighbors, if that can be construed as a benefit — in recent years, Encino has become one of the hottest residential destinations for Hollywood stars. Other nearby homeowners include Nick Jonas, Gwen Stefani, Selena Gomez, Tristan Thompson and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” stars Dorit Kemsley and Kyle Richards.
A New York native, Rubin began hosting the initially YouTube-only “Rubin Report” show in 2013. Popular with political conservatives, the show is now also available for streaming on Glenn Beck’s BlazeTV subscription service. Rubin’s been married to Janet since 2015; the couple previously lived in L.A.’s Sherman Oaks neighborhood, in a contemporary home that was sold for $1.8 million last year, shortly after they bought their big new home.
Adi Livyatan of Rodeo Realty holds the Encino listing.
