Adult Akech was born on the way to the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, where she lived until she was 5 years old. She went on to emigrate to Adelaide, Australia, joining a local modeling agency as a student before being cast as a global exclusive for Anthony Vaccarello’s debut Yves Saint Laurent show. Fast-forward to today, and the famously gap-toothed beauty, 21, has now morphed into one of the world’s most sought-after models, nabbing campaigns and walking runways for the likes of Alexander McQueen, Prada, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Fendi, Givenchy and Versace, just to name a few.
In 2019, the international Vogue cover star was named Model of the Year by the British Fashion Council and included on the TIME 100 Next list of rising stars and up-and-comers shaping their industries. And, most recently, she was tapped as a global brand ambassador for Estée Lauder, which means she’s featured in all of the company’s makeup and skincare campaigns. On top of all that, Akech also seems to be a real estate mogul in the making, having already bought four homes outside the U.S., according to her Instagram feed. Her most recent acquisition — a brand-new Studio City property she recently purchased for $2.8 million — happens to be her first American outpost.
Built just this year, Akech’s contemporary home is sited near the Los Angeles River, and offers four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms spread across 3,000 square feet of living space. Secured by an exterior camera, the white stucco structure is fronted by a wide walkway flanked by a teeny swath of grass, plus a concrete and grass-accented driveway that drops out at a two-car garage.
A wooden front door pivots into the open-concept floorplan, which is accented by soaring ceilings, blonde hardwood floors, smart-home technology and Lutron lighting throughout. Among the main-level highlights: a dining room and fireside living room, plus a sleek gourmet kitchen with a marble waterfall island and high-end Miele appliances. Floor-to-ceiling Fleetwood glass sliding doors open the entire level up to a private backyard, which hosts an eye-catching zero-edge pool and spa surrounded by several patio spaces.
Heading upstairs via a striking floating staircase, one will find a master retreat showcasing a fireplace, balcony and designer showroom closet, along with a marble-clad bath equipped with dual vanities, an oval soaking tub and a glass-encased rain shower. A cozy open-air lounge area boasting a fireplace can be accessed from the master suite and hallway, and two additional en-suite bedrooms with large closets and balconies also can be found on this level.
The listing was held by Sogol Jafari of Core Real Estate Group; Akech was repped by Dalton Gomez of Compass.
