Hard to believe, but it’s going on seven years since August 2014 — the month that marked the earthly departure of the late and great comedic titan Robin Williams. Now 37, his eldest child Zak Williams is a Columbia MBA holder who recently married his longtime partner Olivia June in Los Angeles. The couple have elected to set down some real estate roots in L.A., too, paying nearly $3 million for a somewhat matronly but still charming property out in a desirable pocket of the San Fernando Valley’s Sherman Oaks neighborhood.
Securely set behind a pair of electronic driveway gates, the .39-acre spread lies at the crossroads of two well-traveled avenues, though mature trees on the lot’s perimeter absorb much of the vehicular noise. There’s also a crossroads of sorts happening inside the house, too, where the decor can’t quite decide if it wants to shoot for the contemporary farmhouse look or stay in its neoclassical comfort zone; the result is a visually mixed bag. Presumably Williams — who with his younger half-siblings and stepmother reportedly inherited a fortune worth tens of millions — will remodel the place to suit his needs.
Beyond a manicured front yard that’s more than slightly reminiscent of a lush English garden, double front doors open into a vaulted foyer. Terracotta tile floors change to hardwood in the formal living room, which offers a stone fireplace and exposed ceiling beams, plus French doors leading to an anterior courtyard. There’s also a formal dining room, an old-school media room, and an updated kitchen with commercial-grade stainless appliances, granite countertops, and a center island with bar seating — just watch your head around the low-slung pot rack.
