Gabe may have been the much-maligned target of everyone’s disdain on “The Office,” but Zach Woods is a bonafide winner in real life. The comedic actor (“Silicon Valley,” “Veep,” “Avenue 5”) and New Jersey native has emerged victorious in a bidding war for this stylish Los Angeles home, paying $1.3 million — a crisp $270,000 over the asking price.
Tucked away on a quiet street in the gentrifying Echo Park neighborhood, the 1920s bungalow last sold in 2013 for just $500,000. Since then, the place has been given a comprehensive modern facelift, with a new kitchen, new paint, upgraded plumbing and energy-efficient new lighting. Situated well above the street and securely locked behind tall gates, the dark blue-green home features L.A. sunset views from its generously-sized front porch, a testament to its Craftsman roots.
At just over 1,000 square feet, the house is petite, but its open floorplan and offbeat layout keep things airy and interesting. The front deck connects directly to both the dining room and kitchen, the latter fully customized with stone countertops, bespoke cabinetry and premium Miele appliances. The kitchen also opens to a second back patio, this one completely walled for privacy and with ample space for al fresco entertaining.
There are two bedrooms and just one bathroom on the premises. The larger bedroom has glossy hardwood floors and space for a desk/work-from-home area, and the bathroom offers a new clawfoot bathtub and lavender tiling. Per the listing, the prior homeowners also installed all new custom window treatments, retrofitted the foundation and upgraded the home’s drainage systems.
The steeply sloped lot is small, at less than 2,500 square feet, but it’s been nicely refined with drought-tolerant and native plantings. While there’s no garage, the property does offer off-street parking for one vehicle. The home also offers a basement level that is reserved for laundry facilities, a utility room and additional storage.
Woods, 38, previously owned a renovated Studio City house that he sold last year for $2.3 million.
