Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise wants anyone interested in his breathtaking Telluride ranch to show him the money! The “Mission Impossible” actor and ardent scientologist recently hoisted his sprawling Rocky Mountain estate onto the market with an a-list price tag of $39.5 million, as was initially reported by The Wall Street Journal.
This isn’t actually the first time that Cruise has tried to sell his massive 320-acre ranch. He played around with selling it back in 2014, at $59 million, but never publicly listed it because, according to his current listing agent Eric Lavey, he wasn’t quite ready to part with the spread. And for good reason! Besides being a breathtaking piece of property, the estate holds sentimental value for the actor. Cruise purchased the property back in the early ’90s and then spent several years (and untold sums of cash) to custom design and build a star-worthy Rocky Mountain retreat that includes a huge four-bedroom cabin-esque mansion of nearly 10,000 square feet, plus an equally charming three-bedroom guesthouse.
The property is surrounded on three sides by national forest land, right in between Colorado’s picturesque Uncompahgre National Forest and the San Juan National forest, yet isn’t particularly remote as it’s just a little over seven miles from the heart of Telluride. However, despite its close proximity to town, the estate is still ultra-private in a manner that would befit a celebrity of Cruise’s caliber — the house is located down a mile-long driveway lined with lush Aspen trees and is perched atop a tall hill that allows visitors to watch the private jets coming and going from the Telluride Regional Airport. It is also worth noting that there’s also a helipad on the premises for more dramatic aviation sightings!
The Telluride market has been on fire thanks in part to the the coronavirus pandemic encouraging buyers from big cities to explore real estate options in the countryside. So, it’s likely that someone with deep pockets will take an interest in Cruise’s Coloradan playground.
The listing is jointly held by Lavey and Dan Dockray of Sotheby’s International Realty.

The living room features beamed ceilings with bleached cedar timbers, an oversized stone fireplace and charming French windows that serve up dramatic views of the tall peaks that surround the ranch estate. The home also has a large, well-stocked kitchen decked out with all the necessary luxury appliances a professional chef might desire — including not one, but three refrigerators! — along with several cozy nooks that include a billiards room and a snug library. Naturally, every room appears to be wood-paneled. A spa, office and a three-car garage round out the main structure’s amenities.

For more traditional outdoorsy activities, there’s a sports court, but for activities that are a little more off the beaten path, Cruise’s property also offers an extensive network of hiking, dirt bike, snowmobile and all-terrain vehicle paths, some of which connect to the vast network of trails within the national forests. And, being so close to Telluride, if visitors tire of all the amenities that the estate has to offer, they can head towards town to hit the slopes, have a gourmet meal or pick up a pair of designer hiking boots in one of the many upscale boutiques.

The building was designed by Moises Agami, who boasts a reputation as one of the world’s richest Scientologists.
