It’s been two full years since Sofia Vergara bought her new Los Angeles home, a grand Tuscan villa-style mansion in the guard-gated Beverly Park community. So it’s really no surprise that her old house, a slightly smaller Tuscan-style estate located just down the hill, is now finally up for grabs — asking $19.6 million. TMZ first reported the listing, which is held by Barry Peele of Sotheby’s International Realty.
Though it sits fairly close to the road, the house is nearly invisible from public view, well hidden behind walls, gates, and a truly enormous hedge. Behind all that lies a front-facing garage with room for three cars, plus a motorcourt for several more.
Vergara bought the 0.6-acre property back in 2014, paying $10.6 million. Since then, the “Modern Family” star and her “True Blood” actor husband Joe Manganiello have completely remodeled the 2006-built structure with the guidance of L.A.-based designer Jennifer Bevan, transforming its 11,000 square feet of oppressively brown interiors into a chic contemporary blend of whites, blacks and earthy tones.
Beyond the two-story foyer, where a elegantly curved staircase winds up to the home’s top floor, an all-new chef’s kitchen packs in a trove of premium appliances and a large center island. There are also spacious living, family and dining rooms, all of them outfitted with chandeliers, dark brown hardwood floors, fireplaces and/or sets of French doors opening to the gardens.
While the current listing doesn’t include photos of any bedrooms, there are seven in all — five “family” bedrooms and two staff rooms for live-in hired help. Also on the premises are 11 bathrooms, movie theater, an office/library and a gym. On the subterranean lower level, there’s also a black-and-white wet bar guaranteed to amplify all guests’ merriment.
The sloped backyard is ringed by more tall hedges and trees for celebrity-style privacy, and there are also multiple flat patches of grassy lawn, a pool with inset spa, an al fresco dining area and built-in barbecue.
Manganiello and Vergara, who was the world’s highest-paid television actress for eight consecutive years, are still wrapping up an extensive remodel of their Beverly Park home, which includes more than 17,000 square feet of interior space and was once owned by retired MLB star Barry Bonds.
