Silas Weir Mitchell is probably best known for his role on the NBC supernatural drama “Grimm” as Monroe — a reformed big, bad wolf (or “Wieder Blutbaden”), who supposedly repairs clocks when he’s not helping his detective friend Nick with his fantastical cases. Now the veteran character actor, who’s also appeared in “Prison Break,” “My Name is Earl,” “Crossing Jordan” and the short-lived “Paradise Lost,” is inhabiting a new den of sorts, marking his territory in a snappy little Hollywood Hills midcentury modern.
Records reveal Mitchell swiped down about $2.7 million for his new digs, which were originally offered at $2.495 million — a strong indicator of a bidding war. Coming in at 2,386 square feet, with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, the wood and stucco dwelling was built in 1960, and rests in a secluded cul-de-sac atop Laurel Canyon near the Mulholland Tennis Club and Fryman Canyon Park trails.
Inside, the post-and-beam structure features sun-drenched living areas, refinished hardwood floors and canyon views from almost every room. A spacious living room boasts a floor-to-ceiling rock fireplace and allows the outdoors in via a wall of windows, while the eat-in kitchen is outfitted with granite floors and high-end stainless appliances. Along with family and dining rooms, there’s also a tucked-away bonus room, ideal as a guest or office space, with its own entrance and private bathroom.
Found in a private wing of the home, the master suite features sliding doors leading to the grounds, a walk-in closet, and travertine-clad bathroom with dual vanities, a two-person shower and corner spa tub flanked by large windows. There are two other bedrooms, plus a full hallway bath. Outside, the grassy backyard offers a covered patio perfect for al fresco dining, and freeform pool surrounded by a large sundeck.
Mitchell stills owns a four-bedroom English Tudor-style home in Los Feliz, acquired way back in 2001 for just $849,000. The Hollywood Hills listing was held by Jason Reitz of Rock Realty Group, with Brian Rapf of Pritchett-Rapf Realtors repping Mitchell.
