Actor Scott Speedman Buys Woodsy Pasadena Estate With Mountain Views

Though his competitive swimming career was put on hold due to an accident, after he had placed ninth at the 1992 Olympic trials, Scott Speedman instead flipped and pursued an acting career. Probably best known for his role as Ben Covington on “Felicity,” the Toronto-raised actor has since gone on to appear in numerous TV shows and films — “Underworld,” “Sharp Stick,” “Crimes of the Future,” “Animal Kingdom,” “You” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” just to name a few.

Now Speedman has plunged head first into the real estate pool, having paid nearly $3.3 million for a secluded retreat in the Kinneloa Mesa region of Pasadena, tucked away in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. He received a slight discount on the property, which was originally listed for a speck under $3.6 million.

Resting on two separate heavily wooded parcels of land spanning over 2 acres, the white wood-sided and brick-accented structure was completed in the early 1950s, and features five bedrooms and three baths in a little more than 3,800 square feet of single-level living space boasting ample wood trim and built-ins throughout. There’s also a greenhouse on the property, plus a double garage with an attached space that’s currently being used as an office.

A flagstone walkway empties out at a covered front porch, with the front door opening into an entry vestibule that flows to a spacious living room topped with a solid pecan wood-beam ceiling and displaying a massive brick wood-burning fireplace. Other highlights include a fireside den, sunroom that doubles as a dining room, and country-style kitchen sporting wood cabinetry, a walk-in pantry and an accompanying breakfast room.

For the last 20 years, Speedman, 47, has owned a cozy two-bedroom bungalow in L.A.’s Silver Lake neighborhood.
