That was fast. Singing and dancing stage and television actor Matthew Morrison has lickety-split landed a buyer for La Reve (“The Dream”), his secluded Hollywood Hills home that came for sale last month at almost $4.3 million. Online listings indicate the deal on the table is contingent and backup offers are being accepted.
Once engaged to “Selling Sunset” star Chrishell Stause, the triple-threat performer is all set to more than triple his money on the slightly more than one-acre property he scooped up for about $1.2 million back in 2010, just as his 120-plus-episode stint on “Glee” was heating up. The following year he hooked up with actress Renee Puente, and the two were married in 2014. They’ve since completed a $1 million renovation — Morrison told The Wall Street Journal they added 1,000 square feet and a bedroom — and had two kids, a four-year-old son and a daughter born last summer.
Built in the early 1940s and downright tiny by celeb standards, the Monterey Colonial farmhouse now measures in at a relatively humble 3,146 square feet, with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. Set a sunny knoll, and invisible from the street at the end of a long, gated and foliage enshrouded driveway, the home is listed with Heather Boyd at Hilton & Hyland.
Highlights include a step-down living room with rough-cut stone corner fireplace, and a chef’s kitchen complete with built-in steamer in the doublewide island. French doors open the main floor to stone-paved loggias and terraces that are perfectly furnished to whittle away days (and evenings) staring across the relaxed grounds and into the wooded hillside.
In the master bedroom, with stone fireplace, sunny deck, walk-in closet and modern bathroom, the chunky dark-stained wood beams across the vaulted ceiling are balanced with a delicate, over-sized floral wallpaper behind the bed.
Throughout the house are reminders of the home’s owners: The name Morrison appears on the doormat at the front door, on a wooden sign outside the living room, and on a sepia-toned photograph hung over the fireplace in the master bedroom. Other notable creature comforts include smart home technology that controls security and sound systems, a built-in barbecue, a spa, and several organic fruit trees.
The Morrisons previously owned an apartment in New York that was sold in 2019 for $2.1 million, and an upstate New York retreat that went in 2020 for $775,000. The family plans to travel for a while, with stops in Nashville and Italy, the actor told WSJ, before they eventually settle down and buy a house on the East Coast.
With a number of Broadway credits (“Hairspray,” “The Light in the Piazza,” “Finding Neverland”), Morrison has also appeared in “The Good Wife,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “American Horror Story.” More recently, he starred as the titular character in the live-action movie musical “Dr. Seuss’ the Grinch Musical,” and released an album (“Disney Dreamin’ with Matthew Morrison”) on which he sings Disney classics from “Aladdin,” “Toy Story,” Pinocchio” and more.
