Now that Kate Mara and Jamie Bell have offloaded their secluded retreat in the Hollywood Hills, the married acting duo has officially settled into new Los Angeles digs a bit further east from their former house, up in the leafy foothills of Los Feliz.
Records show Mara and Bell — who have both appeared in a string of hit TV shows and films like “Fantastic Four,” “House of Cards,” “A Teacher” and “Pose,” just to name a few — paid $4.8 million in an off-market deal for a stately Southern Colonial-style estate that was originally built way back in the early 1920s and has since been home to several notable celebrities.
The seller is legendary New Zealand singer-songwriter Neil Finn — best known as a member of Split Enz, Crowded House and Fleetwood Mac — and his longtime wife Sharon, who picked up the place for $4.3 million a little over two years ago, back in March 2020. The property, which has undergone numerous updates through the years, has the added cache of having been owned by Emmy-winning “Simpsons” writer Tim Long and actress Katherine Heigl.
Fully walled and gated, and sequestered away on nearly a quarter-acre of land in a prime pocket of Los Feliz, the white shingle-sided structure has four bedrooms and an equal number of baths spread across almost 3,700 square feet of two-level living space boasting original architectural details, high ceilings, rustic hardwood floors, large windows and French doors throughout. There’s also a renovated guesthouse with a wood-beam ceiling and designer-done bath.
Especially standing out on the main level is a light-filled living room sporting a wood-burning fireplace, along with a dark-hued family room displaying a hidden TV cabinet, wall of bookshelves and access to a wraparound deck. Other highlights include a formal dining room and an adjacent butler’s pantry that connects to a gourmet kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island, high-end stainless appliances and an adjoining breakfast nook.
A traditional staircase leads from the foyer to the upper level, where a sizable master retreat features a fireplace clad in Calacatta Gold marble and walk-in closet, plus a luxe bath adorned with dual vanities, a spa tub and separate shower. Outdoors, the grassy grounds are laced with mature trees, and host a pool and spa, fireside seating area and the aforementioned guesthouse. Topping it all off: a covered second-floor balcony overlooking the backyard.
