Not long before “Shameless” actress Emmy Rossum and TV writer/producer Sam Esmail, creator of the Peabody Award winning series “Mr. Robot,” hoisted their long-time home in Beverly Hills on the market at an even-steven $5 million, they sealed the deal for a significantly larger $15.3 million mansion a handful of miles to the west, in a particularly coveted cranny of the tony Brentwood neighborhood.
Tucked behind high hedges and secured gates, with seven bedrooms and six bathrooms, plus three more powder rooms spread over three floors that all together span close to 13,000 square feet, the recently built Paul Williams-style classic traditional, which might just as well be called a European-inspired manor house, has plenty of room for the Hollywood power couple to bring up the baby they secretly welcomed last year.
Beyond the entry vestibule, with its classic black-and-white checkerboard floor, and the double-height foyer, where the floor becomes dark chocolate brown hardwood, formal living and dining rooms are complemented by an emerald-green library. Less formal and more family-oriented spaces include a vast great room composed of a huge cook’s kitchen, a sunny breakfast area and a family room with wet bar and fireplace.
The handful of bedrooms on the upper level include a sprawling owner’s retreat that’s complete with double-sided fireplace between the bedroom and sitting room, a lavish marble bathroom and two custom-fitted walk-in closets. There are two more en-suite bedrooms down on the finished lower level — aka, the basement — that are perfect for long term guests, teens or staff, along with a huge family room with bar, a well-equipped gym, and a state-of-the-art home theater. Other notable creature comforts include front and rear stairs, plus an elevator, a home office/command center, and smart house technology.
Out back, beyond the heated loggia, which also has an outdoor fireplace, there’s a flat expanse of lawn begging for a children’s play structure. There’s also a built-in fire pit and an open-air pavilion with built-in grill and bar area alongside the swimming pool and spa.
The property was listed with David Offer of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties; Rossum and Esmail were repped in the deal by Aitan Segal at Compass.
Soon to be seen the titular role of the bio-series “Angelyne,” about famous-for-being-famous 1980s billboard icon, occasional California gubernatorial candidate and enduring SoCal pop culture icon Angelyne, for which the couple, as well as Angelyne herself, also serve as executive producers, Rossum and Esmail have long maintained a home in New York where about four years ago they quietly shelled out almost $9.2 million for a 12-room apartment on a high floor of a prestigious cooperative apartment house on New York’s Park Avenue.
