It was almost a year ago already that “Shameless” star Emmy Rossum and TV writer/producer Sam Esmail, creator of the Rami Malek-starring (and Peabody Award winning) series “Mr. Robot,” announced — on Instagram, of course! —that they’d secretly welcomed their first child. And, as rich and/or famous folk frequently do when they add a baby to the mix, the bi-coastal Hollywood power couple have now put their pre-baby Beverly Hills, Calif., home on the market at exactly $5 million.
An actress and singer who got her proverbial showbiz big breaks with the 2003 film “Mystic River” and the 2004 film adaptation of “The Phantom of the Opera,” Rossum acquired the secluded home in 2006, several years before she married her first husband and more than a decade before she and Esmail married in 2017.
Tucked down a tiny cul-de-sac, and set on just over one-third of an acre nestled into a steep hillside just below the illustrious Beverly Park enclave, the circa 1964, four-bedroom and three-and-a-half-bath single-story Hollywood Regency-inspired home spans just over 3,600 square feet with an advanced security system and a Telsa charging station.
Entered via a small walled courtyard embellished with iron gates, most of the interior spaces are light and easy-going, with soft white walls and gently lustered honey-toned hardwood floors. Throughout the house, nearly floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors open to grassy manicured gardens and/or the swimming pool.
Large enough to accommodate a grand piano, the formal living room features an unadorned minimalist fireplace, the formal dining room has a gold-toned sputnik-style chandelier above a decidedly traditional round table for eight, the family room has a flat-screen TV built into the wall between built-in bookshelves, and the long slender kitchen is cool and sleek with automated grey-toned wood cabinets, delicately veined white marble counters and up-to-date high-end stainless-steel appliances.
Guest bedrooms are en suite and ample in size — one of them has an outside entrance that makes it suitable as a home office or staff suite, while the primary bedroom suite includes custom closets and a lavish marble bathroom sheathed in a dizzying array of floor-to-ceiling mirrors.
Outside, the pleasantly geometric five-sided swimming pool is surrounding by slate terracing, while clipped hedgerows border grassy gardens gussied up with clusters of succulents, pink roses and other flowering plants. The property is available Aitan Segal at Compass.
Shortly after they married, in New York City, Rossum and Esmail went hunting for a place to call home in the Big Apple. They settled, in early 2018, at a cost of almost $9.2 million, on a 12-room spread perched on a high-floor of a premier white-glove cooperative apartment house along a particularly fine stretch of Park Avenue.
