She’s only 27, but Cazzie David is already a well-known actress and writer who will star in the upcoming third season of “The Umbrella Academy.” She also co-created and costarred in the web series “Eighty-Sixed“; last year, she released “No One Asked for This,” a collection of essays that apparently no one asked for but still wanted to read — it charted on the New York Times Bestsellers list, after all.
Of course, David’s industry aspirations are certainly helped by the fact that she’s the elder child of “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator Larry David, who makes do with a widely reported $500 million net worth. Still, Cazzie deserves much of the credit for establishing her own name — her tumultuous two-and-a-half year relationship with Pete Davidson made all the tabloid headlines. And after Davidson left her for Ariana Grande, David’s subsequent friendship with John Mayer kept her squarely in the spotlight, serving to further heighten her public profile.
After spending 2020 quarantining with her dad in his Pacific Palisades mansion, David is finally ready to strike out on her own real estate journey. She’s left the Palisades for the sexier 90210 neighborhood, where the L.A. native has plunked down more than $6.7 million on an idiosyncratic and exceptionally secluded estate deep in the mountains above Beverly Hills, in a neighborhood known as Beverly Hills Post Office.
The house was sold by Ben Goldhirsh, heir to a magazine and publishing empire founded by his father, the entrepreneur Bernie Goldhirsh. Set at the very end of a shockingly long and narrow dead-end road, the estate is unusually large for Los Angeles, spanning nearly five contiguous acres with no nearby neighbors. Tall gates and trees guard the long driveway, which meanders up past the guesthouse before reaching the main house. The entire compound is sequestered high in the mountains between Benedict Canyon and Franklin Canyon, with no immediate neighbors.
Per the listing, the cedar-sided home is the product of “top architects and designers,” who collaborated to “[create] a rustic yet refined retreat.” From the photos, it appeared those designers were successful — the place is reminiscent of a ritzy mountainside lodge in Aspen or Jackson Hole, albeit one with definite East Coast style influences.
Notable features include a swimming pool with its own poolhouse that packs in a bathroom and outdoor shower. The sun-dappled main house stands two stories tall and includes a great room, study, sunroom and three bedrooms, with the primary suite on the ground level. The guesthouse has its own living room, full kitchen and bedroom, plus an attached garage that’s currently outfitted as a gym.
But the endless outdoor spaces are what makes the place really sparkle. Meandering hiking trails wrap around the property. There are organic vegetable gardens, al fresco dining patios, an outdoor fireplace and gas firepit. Native plantings throughout provide the estate with a beautiful but blessedly low-maintenance landscape appeal.
