As Deon Cole, best known for his portrayal of sketchy and hilariously maniacal Charlie Telphy on the hit sitcom “Black-ish” and its spin-off “Grown-ish,” has climbed the proverbial showbiz ladder, he’s steadily upgraded and upsized his residential circumstances in L.A.’s sprawling San Fernando Valley.
Some six months before he sold a not quite 3,800-square-foot home Woodland Hills, in late 2019 for $1.565 million, he splashed out $2.525 million for a slightly more than 5,800-square-foot home in the Coldwater Canyon area of Studio City that’s he’s recently hoisted back on the market with a seriously profitable price tag pushing up on $4.2 million. And now, the veteran standup comedian, writer and actor, a two-time Emmy nominee for his writing efforts on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” and “Conan,” is really doing it up big with the $5.7 million purchase of a conspicuously lavish 7,500-square-foot mansion tucked away on a tiny cul-de-sac in one of the premiere neighborhoods of Encino. Long, gated driveway. Elevator. Wine Cellar. Tennis court. The whole shebang.
Sitting on just over an acre of hillside land and described in marketing materials as an “Italian Villa,” the three-story home is invisible from the street at the head of a sinuous driveway that winds up to a small motor court and three-car garage. There are a total of seven bedrooms and seven full and two half bathrooms.
The double-height entrance showcases a curved staircase embellished with a floridly curlicued wrought-iron railing, and the also double-height step-down formal living room is dominated by a carved stone fireplace, while the separate dining room easily seats ten or twelve beneath a flamboyant chandelier. A loggia off the dining room is lined with a baronial stone balustrade and provides sweeping views that extend all the way to the mountains that comprise the northern border of the San Fernando Valley. Other notable features include a spacious eat-in kitchen with rust-colored granite counters and up-to-date designer appliances, a family room with fireplace, a home office, and a media lounge with walk-in wet bar.
Located on the top-floor in a wing of its own, the homeowner’s suite includes an entrance vestibule with morning bar, an elaborately carved fireplace, a roomy private terrace, two fitted walk-in closets, which are perfect for the fashion daredevil, and a decadent bathroom slathered in polished travertine and complete with a jetted garden tub festooned with stout Corinthian columns.
Outside, the estate’s grounds offer mature landscaping, a swimming pool and spa that’s skinny-dip private thanks to high hedging and thick foliage and, set on a high plateau above the house, a lighted tennis court with sweeping views.
