Best known to primetime TV audiences as brunette brainiac teenager Alex Dunphy on the beloved sitcom “Modern Family” but now all grown up and currently sporting racy flame-red hair, Ariel Winter is on the move, putting her home in L.A.’s popular Studio City community on the market at at a pinch under $4 million. Listed with Matt Epstein of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties, the price is half a million bucks more than the not quite $3.5 million dollars the 24-year-old bombshell paid only about one and a half years ago. Brand new when she bought it, the almost 5,400-square-foot family-sized home offers five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms, plus a poolside cabana with another bath.
A four-time Screen Actors Guild Award winner and a busy voiceover actor who’s voiced characters on “Phineas and Ferb,” “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” “Minnie’s Bow-Toons,” “Sofia the First,” “Robot Chicken” and “Elena of Avalor,” Winter shares the home with her “Dumplin’” actor boyfriend Luke Benward and their five alliteratively named dogs, Casper, Chloe, Cash, Cleo and Cobey. The couple will appear on the silver screen together in the upcoming indie comedy thriller “Don’t Log Off,” which they are both also producing.
Set on almost one-third of an acre that backs up to a notoriously trafficked thronged stretch of freeway, and built in the ubiquitous modern farmhouse style that’s proliferated across SoCal over the last ten years, the still almost new two-story home is obscured behind 50-year-old olive trees, locked gates, and a Fort Knox-style security system equipped with more than a dozen cameras.
Airy, light-filled and sparsely furnished interior spaces include a long and wide center hall foyer, a formal living room with fireplace, a home office behind a solid wall of glass, and a great room that spans the rear of the residence, where it spills out to the backyard through disappearing walls of glass. Pale dove-grey granite counters waterfall over the edge of the high-end kitchen’s doublewide island snack bar, while darker seal-grey stone wraps the free-standing linear fireplace that stands between the family room and dining area.
There’s an en-suite guest room on the main floor and three more on the upper level, each showcasing a unique paneled wall treatment. The the primary bedroom, also upstairs, offers a fireplace, walk-in closet, spa-style bath, and a spacious terrace accessed through another bank of disappearing glass.
Simply landscaped and hedged for privacy, the pancake-flat yard includes a fire pit alongside the swimming pool and spa that is surrounded by a soccer-pitch-sized stretch of lawn that’s perfect for five frolicking dogs. The pool house offers a trellis-shaded terrace, and a convenient pool bath.
Coincidentally, or maybe not so coincidentally, Winter’s older sister, acting teacher Shanelle Workman Gray — it was Gray who was granted guardianship when Winter was emancipated in 2015 — has her home in the neighboring Valley Village neighborhood on the market at a smidgen under $2.4 million.
