Though it was never officially on the market, a luxe blufftop retreat in Malibu has sold for slightly over the $8 million asking price to Chicago Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman, who will presumably share the digs with his longtime girlfriend and celebrity fitness trainer Shannon Nadj.
Stroman purchased the Spanish-style home from a veteran CBRE executive who had owned the mansion for 16 years, having purchased the place for $4.2 million back in spring 2007.
Built in 2003, and nestled on a flat parcel spanning almost 1.5 acres of land resting within a desirable gated enclave high above Carbon Beach, the sandy-hued stucco and terracotta-roof structure is mostly hidden away from the street behind gates. Out front is a motorcourt and an attached garage, and picturesque city lights and ocean views are available from almost every vantage point on the property.
Once inside, the elegant spread features five bedrooms and six baths sprawled across a little more than 5,100 square feet of single-level living space punctuated throughout with stone floors and high wood-accented ceilings. There’s also a detached one-bedroom, one-bath guesthouse.
Highlights include formal living and dining rooms, a fireside family room, and spacious kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island, stainless appliances and an accompanying breakfast nook. Secluded in a wing all by itself is a private master retreat, which boasts a fireplace, walk-in closet, and large bath equipped with dual vanities, a spa tub and glass-encased shower; and elsewhere is a wine cellar and a bedroom that’s been converted into an office space.
Outdoors, the landscaped grounds are dotted with meandering pathways, and host an infinity pool and spa surrounded by a grassy lawn, as well as a built-in barbecue station, conversation area with fire-pit, and numerous spots for al fresco dining and lounging. An added bonus: The property transfers with deeded rights to the La Costa Beach and Tennis Club.
Before he joined the Cubs in 2021, Stroman played for the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets, garnering a Gold Glove Award and an All-Star appearance in the process; and he’s also suited up for Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. In addition to his newly acquired Malibu home, the 31-year-old New York native maintains a custom waterfront mansion within an exclusive gated community of Tampa, Fla., which he picked up for $1.85 million back in October 2017.
