Jimmy Rollins Pitches L.A. Home on the Market

After he sold a lavish Encino mansion in late 2019 for $100,000 less than he paid two years earlier, retired Major League Baseball heavy hitter Jimmy “J-Roll” Rollins hopes to more than make up the shortfall on the sale of an ultra-modern mansion in the sought-after Royal Oaks area of L.A.’s ever-more popular and expensive Encino community. The $11.75 million price tag doesn’t come close to the record-setting $16 million Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof got for their Encino estate earlier this year, but it is a whopping $3 million above the $8.7 million the three-time All-Star 2008 World Series champion shortstop paid not quite four years ago.

Set on a half-acre corner parcel and all but invisible behind verdant plumes of sky-high hedging, the ultra-modern mansion and its two-story detached guest house provide about 11,000 square feet of airy, light-filled contemporary living space. In total, there are nine bedrooms and ten bathrooms, plus a powder room, according to listings held by Carl Gambino and Jacob Greenberg, both with Compass.

A chunky mass of cubic volumes differentiated by subtle changes in color and material, the seven-bedroom main residence is lightened by numerous glass-railed balconies and warmed with strategic bits and bobs of wood cladding. Tax records indicate the former Philadelphia Philly’s residential real estate portfolio still includes a 6,400-square-foot in the affluent Bay Area community of Alamo that he scooped up way back in 2009 for $3.1 million.
