Though it’s been barely six weeks since he was traded from the Detroit Lions to the Los Angeles Rams, Matthew Stafford has already scored a local real estate touchdown of sorts. The NFL star and $135 million man has paid a whopping $19.6 million for a still-under-construction estate in the L.A.’s San Fernando Valley, within the guard-gated celebrity enclave of Hidden Hills, where other homeowners include a bevy of other famous ballers, musicians, and multiple members of the Kardashian clan.
Since Stafford’s new home is still under construction and was sold off-market, no completed interior photos exist. But renderings and other online resources reveal confirm the place is huge — approximately 15,000 square feet — and is a striking glassy contemporary-meets-modern farmhouse sort of structure, with a dash of Napa Valley retreat style thrown in for good measure. Designed by architecture firm 64North, the many-gabled roofline is juxtaposed against broad expanses of glass and a shingle-sided exterior.
Sited atop a knoll with views of a neighboring canyon and the surrounding hills, the nearly two-acre estate includes a series of front steps that welcome guests to the all-glass entryway, where there will be not one but two enormous chandeliers, plus coveted indoor/outdoor views that extend all the way from the foyer though the home’s glass walls, to the pool and the canyon views beyond.
A central gallery links the public and private rooms, among them a sumptuous library, den, and two temperature-controlled wine cellars — one for red wine storage, one for white. There are also indoor and outdoor lounges, ideal for grand-scale entertaining, plus indoor and outdoor kitchens with all the expected designer appliances and finishes. At the mansion’s center, a spiral staircase overlooks a courtyard as it leads upstairs, to the private family bedroom suites.
Most of the interior spaces open directly to the outdoor gardens, which will be Mediterranean in theme, with long grasses and a multitude of mature olive trees. Tucked into one side of the property will be a sports court, plus a shaded pergola with seating for dozens of guests; on another side of the house is an attached garage with lifts and space for up to 12 luxury automobiles. Altogether, there are a total of 3,000 square feet of covered outdoor entertaining areas and garaging.
Back inside, the home’s six bedrooms and nine bathrooms are complemented by a wellness suite — comprised of a massage room and steam shower — plus a “commercial quality” home theater and a state-of-the-art fitness center. And when Halloween rolls around, trick-or-treating will be fun — the house lies on a quiet cul-de-sac where almost every neighbor is famous, including Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union, Lil Wayne, NBA star DeMar DeRozan, and Kylie Jenner, whose longtime residence lies immediately across the street.
