With a $103 million contract under his five-time All-Star belt — plus the looming prospect of his upcoming free agency — Kawhi Leonard can afford to live anywhere he pleases. But the Rolls Royce-driving Clippers baller has chosen to splash out $17.1 million in L.A.’s sunny Pacific Palisades neighborhood, on a luxe if somewhat conservatively styled mansion atop a promontory, where the panoramic ocean views are guaranteed to wow his guests.
Of course, the 29-year-old Moreno Valley native is no stranger to big real estate splurges. Leonard still owns a sumptuous estate in the equestrian-oriented San Diego suburb of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., acquired in 2019 for $13.3 million. And during basketball season, he bunks up in a $6.7 million condo at the ritzy Ritz Carlton Residences at L.A. Live, the skyscraper condo complex that sits high above the Staples Center, and where other moneyed residents include fellow pro basketballer Lonzo Ball, Lakers owner Jim Buss, and horror movie maestro Jason Blum.
Leonard’s third home is located in a far-flung corner of the Westside, on a walled and gated .82-acre property. Described as a “custom Hamptons-style home,” the property was designed and built for (in)famously brash film producer Ryan Kavanaugh, the founder of now-bankrupt Relativity Media. Kavanaugh completed the house in 2018; in February 2019, the nearly 12,000-square-foot mansion was put up for sale, asking $25 million. After two years on and off the market, the asking price had dropped precipitously to $17.5 million before Leonard swooped in with an even lower offer.

A dual-sided fireplace effectively bisects the main living room from a secondary step-down living room; both spaces have coffered ceilings and foldaway glass doors with direct access to outdoor terraces.

Also on the main level is a formal dining area, at least one maid’s bedroom suite, and a long staircase leading to the upstairs family bedrooms.

There are dual walk-in closets, plus dual “couples” bathroom offers separate rooms connected by a tremendous glass shower with a porthole-style window and several showerheads.

The lower subterranean floor is party-ready with a billiards room, a 960-bottle wine cellar with tasting bar, and a movie theater with captain’s chair leather seating for 10.

Josh Altman and Jessica Kavanaugh of The Altman Brothers team at Douglas Elliman repped both sides of the transaction.
