Veteran rocker, occasional actor, politically outspoken philanthropist and property gossip column staple Jon Bon Jovi has yet to sell a $16 million dollar duplex in New York City’s West Village but he’s nonetheless got the financial firepower to shell out $18.94 million for a more expensive if slightly smaller, simplex apartment about half of a mile away at the recently refurbished, LEED-certified Greenwich Lane complex. With four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms in 3,951-square-feet, the high-floor corner unit, with finely tailored interior design by renowned designer Thomas O’Brien, is luxuriously outfitted with dark stained oak floorboards, artisan-quality mill work, a multi-zone heating and cooling system, a custom lighting system, a laundry room and bathrooms that feature marble mosaic radiant heated floors.
The elevator opens directly into the apartment and a wide entrance hall leads to a 40-foot-long combination living/dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows on two walls that open to Juliet balconies. A separate center-island chef’s kitchen sports sophisticated grey marble countertops on deluxe walnut-paneled cabinets and the adjoining dining area/family room opens to an itty-bitty but still nice-to-have 44-square-foot balcony. Bedrooms are well separated for maximum privacy and include two, west-facing en suite guest/family bedrooms with walk-in closets tucked up behind the kitchen, a spacious east-facing en suite guest bedroom and, in the sunny southeast corner of the apartment, the master bedroom that includes a lengthy entrance vestibule and gallery, an enormous walk-in closet and a spa-style bathroom with a two-person soaking tub set in front of a floor-to-ceiling window with an open view of the downtown Manhattan skyline.
Other high-profile and deep-pocketed buyers at the tony Greenwich Lane complex include American fashion designer Michael Kors, British shoe tycoon Tamara Mellon and Starbucks executive chairman Howard Schultz who earlier this year paid a bit more than $40 million for a duplex penthouse with four bedrooms, four full and two half bathrooms and three terraces. Residents of the massive complex, an amalgamation of several conjoined buildings and a handful of townhouses on the site of the former St. Vincent’s Hospital, are provided premium services and a bevy of recreation and leisure amenities that include round-the-clock doormen and concierge services, a state-of-the-art fitness center with a 25-meter indoor swimming pool and golf simulator, a children’s playroom, a private dining room with catering kitchen, and a 21-seat private screening room.
Mister Bon Jovi, who’s latest album is ironically called “This House Is Not for Sale,” and his wife, Dorothea Hurley, who maintain a multi-acre riverfront estate in Red Bank, NJ, as well as a large home along one of the most expensive streets in East Hampton, NY, that they scooped up in 2004 for $7.6 million, keep downsizing their Manhattan digs. In 2007 they shelled out $24 million for an almost 7,500-square-foot duplex penthouse atop the New Museum building in SoHo that, after first listing it early 2013 at $42 million, they sold in 2015 for $34 million Austrian-American businessman Gerhard Andlinger who, as it turns out, has it back up for sale at $38 million. Right about the time they sold their mansion-sized duplex in SoHo they paid $12,877,000 for another, substantially smaller duplex in the West Village with a bit more than 4,000-square-feet plus a grassy terrace with open views across the Hudson River. Over the summer (2017) they listed the four-bedroom and 4.5-bathroom condo at $17.25 million and it remains unsold with a substantially reduced asking price of $15.95 million.
