Gabrielle Union sold an unassuming home in the San Fernando Valley community of Woodland Hills before it could officially be listed on the open market for $675,000. Union, who came to fame in the early 2000s on the teen classics like “Bring It On,” Love and Basketball,” and “10 Things I Hate About You” but more recently held down the titular role on the recently canceled BET series “Being Mary Jane” and will soon star on the silver screen in the star-studded Emilio Estevez written and directed drama “The Public,” purchased the property in October 2001 for $510,000.
The red tile roofed residence, built in the mid-1970s on an irregularly shaped, .15-acre down-sloped parcel in a quiet neighborhood between the Woodland Hills Country Club and Serrania Park, has three bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,874-square-feet. The living room features hardwood floors, a fireplace and French doors while the adjoining dining room has bone-colored ceramic tile floors that extend into a kitchen renovated with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. The rear of the residence opens to a large deck cantilevered over the steep, landscaped hillside below the house with over-the-rooftops view.
Union, who courageously detailed her own horrific story of rape in her newly published book of autobiographical essays, “We’re Going to Need Moe Wine,” also owned a substantially larger 5,376-square-foot mock-Med residence with five bedrooms and six bathrooms in the gated Summit Ridge development in the San Fernando Valley community of Chatsworth that she bought in August 2014 for $1.35 million and quietly sold in June of this year (2017) for $1.7 million.
In the fall of 2016, after he announced he was leaving the Miami Heat for the Chicago Bulls — he’s since signed on to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers — Union’s professional basketball player husband Dwayne Wade was reported to be shopping his more than 12,000-square-foot bay-front mansion on Miami Beach’s prestigious North Bay Road with an undisclosed price but property records do not reflect a change of ownership on the property Wade picked up in 2010 for $10.645 million.
