Not considering carrying costs, improvement expenses or hefty real estate fees that could easily tally up to several hundred thousand dollars, veteran film and TV actor and longtime Allstate Insurance spokesman Dennis Haysbert hopes to more than triple his money on the sale of a Malibu, Calif., property that’s come up for sale at $10 million. The famously deep-voiced star of the recently released and not especially well reviewed Netflix psychological thriller “Secret Obsession,” Haysbert acquired the gated estate in the rolling foothills above Zuma Beach about 15 years ago for $2.8 million. Marketing materials don’t explicitly state the house’s square footage — tax records, which may or may not be accurate, put it at just over 3,000 — but do indicate the extraordinarily wide residence was built in the early 1960s on just over an acre and is currently configured with three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, plus a second floor penthouse office. The property is listed with Herb Leary at Leary Estates.
An exceptionally long, wood-floored combination living and dining room is anchored at one end by a huge stacked stone fireplace between open bookshelves and flooded with natural light through a couple of skylights in the slightly pitched, exposed beam ceiling, while a long wall of floor-to-ceiling windows provide a wide-angle view over the verdant backyard. Beyond the dining area, an ultra-modern center island kitchen has an over-the-shrubbery ocean view from the sink and opens to a family room with another full wall of windows and glass doors to the yard. Guest and family bathrooms are updated if fairly basic, while the spacious, sparsely furnished master bedroom spills out to the backyard through yet another solid wall of windows and includes another updated but basic bathroom with a double-sink vanity, soaking tub and separate, beige travertine tiled shower. Outside, a sinuously curved patio overlooks a broad lawn along with a faux-grass putting green and an infinity-edged saltwater swimming pool. Bonus features include an array of solar panels on the roof, a newly installed central heat and air conditioning system and an extensive security system with indoor and outdoor cameras.
The former “24” star, whose more recent credits include leading roles in the short-lived series “Incorporated” and “Reverie,” additionally owns an almost 1,300 sq. ft. loft-style condo in the heart of Old Town Pasadena that property records indicate was scooped up in 2006 for close to $750,000.
