Josh Brolin is on the move. Earlier this year, the 52-year-old “Avengers” franchise star sold a half-acre equestrian spread in the rustic (and expensive) Sullivan Canyon area of Los Angeles’ tony Brentwood community for $6.55 million, a few hundred thousand more than the $6.2 million he paid just six months earlier. Then, he and his much younger third wife, former model Kathryn Boyd, plunked down $3.55 million for a picturesquely landscaped 1.5-acre estate in the leafy suburbs north of downtown Atlanta, before they quietly dropped $1.1 million on a Spanish-inspired home in an affluent neighborhood of Simi Valley, about 40 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
The Simi Valley property, a slightly more than 3,700-square-foot two-story home on about half an acre of lushly planted grounds, was built in the late 1980s and, though clean as a whistle and fastidiously maintained, looks almost as if it were preserved in 1980s amber. Decked out with a brass chandelier and polished travertine tile floor, the central foyer is flanked by formal living and dining rooms, the former with a banker’s green marble fireplace and both with cream-colored wall-to-wall carpeting. The kitchen, with an adjoining breakfast area, is arranged around a double-wide island, with solid oak cabinets topped by slabs of iridescently flecked black granite; it flows easily into a spacious family room that’s ripe for casual entertaining with a whitewashed brick corner fireplace, a wet bar and three sets of glass sliders to the backyard.
The four bedrooms and three full bathrooms include a main floor guest suite and a spacious second-floor owner’s retreat replete with fireplace, sitting room, private balcony and a spacious, remodeled bathroom slathered in beige stone tile work.
The backyard offers a thick carpet of lawn, fragrant flowering gardens and an outdoor kitchen and dining terrace shaded by a wooden pergola. Mature specimen trees surround a lagoon-style swimming pool and spa that are ringed by a flagstone border.
